These 8 Plants Keep Cockroaches and Flies Away from Our Homes

3 – BASIL

A classic ! Its scent, although so pleasant for us, is an excellent natural repellent against flies… who hate its smell.

In a pot or in a dried bouquet, place it near doors and windows. It’s truly THE all-in-one plant: insect repellent, anti-bacterial, anti-viral and edible, we love it!

4 – GARLIC

The garlic plant, one of the most used vegetables in cooking, is one of the most effective natural repellents and is particularly useful against cockroaches.

5 – LEMONSELLA

Lemongrass is a grass (Cymbopogon citratus), widely used in cooking by Asians. Its foliage gives off a strong lemony fragrance, well known for repelling the mosquitoes that disturb our summer evenings. But… the smell is exhaled from the foliage only when it is cut. The anti-mosquito effectiveness of lemongrass will therefore be almost zero if you just plant it around the places where you eat your meals in the evening!

You will need to chop a few leaves and place them on the table to repel mosquitoes or even wasps. Unfortunately these leaves are tough and sometimes sharp. You will therefore need to use pruning shears to cut them and never do this with your bare hands.

6 – MELISSA

Lemon balm is a perennial plant that gives off a strong lemony smell. It is known to repel ants and flies.

It is a very easy and interesting culture that can be used in other areas:

  • In the kitchen, both for desserts and savory dishes;
  • As a herbal tea to combat gastric disorders and sleep disorders.

7 – MINT

Useful against many insects, it is also advisable to favor peppermint or pennyroyal.

Uses

  • Wardrobe moths: dry and in sachets.
  • Ants: in fresh bouquets on their way.
  • Flies: in pots on windows and in bouquets on doors.
  • Mosquitoes: rubbed on arms, ankles and neck.
  • Spiders: in fresh clusters hanging from the ceiling.
  • Aphids, whiteflies, flea beetles or bedbugs: infusion to protect your vegetable garden.

8 – ROSEMARY

Rosemary is a very powerful natural repellent against flies, mosquitoes and many other insects. It can be planted in the ground or in a pot and placed almost anywhere to protect you, but also your plants.
