Nail polish on clothes? How to remove the stain in just a few steps

  • Stains on fabrics : when nail polish falls on fabrics, it is a good idea to find out about the materials by reading the label before proceeding. In fact, if the fabric contains acetate or triacetate it is necessary to take the garment to the dry cleaners while for other cases you can proceed from home. Below we will look at the various materials in detail .
  • Cotton : just take a sheet of paper and some acetone. The sheet will be applied to the part where there is the nail polish stain and with a cotton ball soaked in acetone you can dab the back of the stain, then you will have to rinse with water. The process must be repeated several times until it is completely removed and only then can the garment be washed in the washing machine.
  • Jeans : the process is the same as for cotton but if there is a particularly resistant stain you can add denatured alcohol.
  • Silk : this fabric is very delicate and for this reason you can tend to take it to the dry cleaners or you can try it at home being very careful. If the choice falls on the second option you can use hairspray with a toothbrush . Just make circular movements with the toothbrush wet with hairspray. If the stain is gone you can proceed with washing.
  • For dry nail polish stains you can instead use hydrogen peroxide . Be careful though because it could have a lightening effect and you could damage your clothes so it’s better to test it on an inconspicuous area.
